Who We Are

Who are 100+ Women Who Care?

100+ Women Who Care was started in November of 2006 by Karen Dunigan of Jackson, Michigan, as a brilliantly simple way to raise money efficiently and quickly for local charities. Her group of 100 women, at their first one-hour meeting, each wrote a check for $100 directly to the charity, raising over $10,000 to buy 300 new baby cribs for an organization in their city. Since then, they have grown to over 200 members and Women Who Care chapters are forming all over North America. These groups collectively have donated more than a million dollars to locally based organizations.

Carolyn Day chairs the quarterly membership meetings and facilitates the agenda for those meetings. Carolyn manages the group’s Facebook Page.

Darice Ahrnsbrak coordinates the group’s membership. She keeps a current roster and email list of committed and potential members. She accepts new membership commitment forms at meetings and via email, and answers membership questions.  Darice contacts members periodically with updates via email. She works with other group members to identify membership drive opportunities. She distributes ballots to those eligible to vote at the meetings.

Barbara Hege serves as the organization’s Treasurer. She collects and tallies the votes and collects and tallies the checks, including those of absent members. Barbara ensures that all money is appropriately delivered to the selected charity after each meeting. She validates each charity to confirm that it is in fact a 501(c)(3) organization.  She makes certain that the selected charity understands and accepts the nondisclosure terms of the award.

Mary Blake chairs the organizational planning meetings, prepares and distributes minutes, and assigns additional tasks as needed. She manages other publicity and promotion for the group through non-email media. Mary works with the Treasurer to contact the previous quarter’s selected charity to provide a speaker or talking points for the upcoming meeting.

Bari Lee provides the technical support for the Facebook and website pages.
